Yes I know that title is a given, I haven’t been 21 in a while, but for some reason I am constantly testing this theory…
With my sisters being younger and especially my youngest one being in a different life stage, I’m constantly testing the theory if I can party the way she can (even though I do thank her for keeping me young from time to time!). I’m routinely reminded that I can’t, yet as all stubborn women are, I challenge it over and over again. I think I’ve reached my limit. My body is internally thanking me as I write those words down 🙂
I think we all want to be younger than we really are (with the exception of 16. You always want to be 18 or 21 when you’re 16). Once you hit about 25, you wish you were 21. When you’re 30, you still want to be in your 20’s. When you get to you 40’s and 50’s you want to be 25. The 20’s were great. It was the time to experiment, have fun, be rebellious and unpredictable. It was a time where you could try things on to see if they fit without a lot of repercussion. It was fun. It was also slightly scary, and let’s be honest, sometimes just plain stupid.
I for one am loving being in my 30’s. No, I can’t drink or party the way I did when I was in my 20’s, and my wrinkles and grays are just going to escalate from here, but I don’t mind. I would rather go to dinner than party it up at a dance club. I’m more of a homebody and don’t mind staying home on a Friday night with my husband and glass a wine. In my 30’s I feel more confident in myself and who I am as a person. I’ve achieved more than I imagined I would. I’ve learned valuable lessons about the people around me. If I’m in this stage in my life in my 30’s, can you imagine what it’ll be like in my 40’s?
Take a look at the stage in life that you are at right now and think about what you know now from what you knew when you were younger. Are you smarter? Humble? Grateful? Successful? Happy? Were there things that you know now that you wish you knew then? Are you more prepared for life? I sure hope so.
So whether you’re 25 or 45, enjoy where you are. You only get one life so live it in the present and enjoy every second.
